Workspace estimated tax
Aggregate per-company estimated-tax calculations into portfolio-wide By Company and By Owner views, link pass-throughs to owners, and roll assumptions forward.
Workspace estimated tax aggregates each company's estimated-tax calculator into two portfolio-wide views, lets you link pass-through entities to their owners, and copies prior-year assumptions forward when you start a new tax year.
Workspace > Estimated Tax. The page opens with two tabs: By Company and By Owner. A tax-year selector in the top-right controls every figure on the page and covers the current year and the four prior years.Overview
You can use Workspace estimated tax to:
- Review each company's projected tax liability and quarterly payments in one table.
- Roll up K-1 distributions from pass-through entities to individual owners.
- Configure entity chains so pass-through income flows to the correct owner.
- Create new owners and reconcile unlinked owners across companies.
- Copy owner data and entity chains forward when you start a new tax year.
Each company's underlying calculation lives on the company-level Estimated Tax page. The workspace views read from those calculations and combine them.
View By Company
The By Company tab lists every company in the workspace alongside its tax-year totals.
- Go to
Workspace > Estimated Tax. - Confirm the By Company tab is active.
- Select the tax year from the year dropdown in the top-right.
- Toggle Show all to include companies that do not yet have an estimated-tax calculation for the selected year.
By default, the table shows only companies with a calculation for the selected year. Click any row to open that company's Estimated Tax page.
View By Owner
The By Owner tab rolls each company's pass-through income up to the owners who hold equity in those companies.
- Go to
Workspace > Estimated Tax. - Click the By Owner tab.
- Select the tax year from the year dropdown.
- Click an owner row to open the owner detail page.
The owner detail page shows:
- Owner information and filing status.
- Entity-by-entity breakdown of K-1 income.
- Income summary and tax computation.
- Quarterly payments against the computed liability.
- Entity chains that route distributions to this owner.
Use the back link at the top of the detail page to return to the By Owner table.
Create an owner
A tax owner is a person who holds equity in one or more companies (a partner or shareholder). Owners are records you maintain for tax tracking, not user accounts.
- Open the By Owner tab.
- Click Create Owner.
- Enter the owner's name. The name is required.
- Optionally add an email, default filing status, default resident state, and notes.
- Click Create Owner.
- In the confirmation panel, select a company from the dropdown and click Go to Company Owners to link the new owner to that company's Owners tab.
You must link an owner to at least one company on the company-level Estimated Tax page before they appear with data in the By Owner view.
Reconcile owners
When the same person holds equity in multiple companies, you can reconcile their owner records into a single workspace owner.
- Open the By Owner tab.
- If unlinked owners exist, a Reconcile Owners button appears with a count badge.
- Click Reconcile Owners.
- Review the result toast: it reports owners created, links created, and any ambiguous groups that need manual resolution.
Ambiguous groups are not auto-merged. Resolve them manually on the relevant company's Owners tab.
Configure entity chains
An entity chain links a pass-through entity (LLC, S-corp, partnership) to the entity or individual owner that receives its K-1 distribution. Use chains when one company in the workspace is owned by another company in the workspace, and you want distributions to flow through to the ultimate owner.
- Go to
Workspace > Estimated Tax(either tab works). - Click Entity Chains in the action bar. The button shows a count of existing chains for the selected year.
- In the side panel, review or edit existing chains.
- Add a new chain by selecting the source entity, the target entity or owner, and the K-1 distribution percentage.
- Save your changes.
Entity chains are scoped to a specific tax year. A chain configured for 2025 does not automatically apply to 2026. Use Copy Forward to bring chains into a new year.
Copy assumptions forward
When a new tax year begins, you can copy owner data and entity chains from a prior year so you do not have to recreate them.
- Open
Workspace > Estimated Tax. - Click Copy Forward in the action bar.
- Select the source year (the year you want to copy from).
- Select the destination year (the year you want to populate).
- Confirm the operation.
What gets copied:
- Owner records and their default filing status, resident state, and notes.
- Entity chain relationships and K-1 distribution percentages.
What does not get copied:
- Company-level calculator inputs (income projections, deductions, payments). You configure those on each company's Estimated Tax page.
- Quarterly payment records.
Copy forward is additive. Existing data in the destination year is not overwritten unless an exact match exists.
Permissions
You must be a member of the workspace to view either tab. Owner records, entity chains, and copy-forward operations apply to the active workspace selected in the top bar.
Limitations
- The tax-year selector covers the current year plus the four prior years. Older years are not available.
- The By Company view hides companies without a calculation for the selected year unless you enable Show all.
- The By Owner view depends on each company having an Estimated Tax calculation and at least one linked owner. Companies without owners do not contribute to owner totals.
- Reconciliation does not auto-merge ambiguous owner groups; those require manual resolution on the company Owners tab.
- Copy forward does not transfer company-level calculator inputs or payment records.
- Entity chains are scoped per tax year and must be copied or recreated each year.
